Could this be the Spider-Man 3 title?

Marvel love to tease their fans.

From trailers and preview footage to snippets of narrative, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of examples.

And fans have once again been circling like sharks to a potential tease regarding the name of the third Spider-Man solo film.

The first two movies in the Spider-Man series had something in common in regards to their titles, both having the word ‘home’ in it.

Tom Holland’s solo debut as the webslinging hero was named Spider-Man: Homecoming; while it’s sequel landed the name Spider-Man: Far From Home.

It is understood that the third movie, also directed by Jon Watts, will follow the same pattern.

That has led fans guessing as to what the title of the film might be.

Some of the guesses are good, and others just comical – Spider-Man: Stay at Home merely a parody for the current global agenda.

However, Spider-Man: Home Invasion seems a pretty strong prediction.

Not only does it tie-in to the ‘home’ pattern of its two predecessors, but it also fits the likely storyline of this movie.

Far From Home left off with Mysterio revealing Spider-Man’s identity to the world, and framing him for the drone attack.

So Spider-Man 3 will see Peter Parker pretty much against the world.

He’ll be rooted to New York at long last in an attempt to keep as low a profile as possible, and there’ll be a lot of enemies out to get him.

A title like Home Invasion could go as far as teasing the inevitable arrival of the Sinister Six into Parker’s life – New York being the assembly point.

But it could also tease a much bigger story, one that could effect the whole MCU.

The Secret Invasion.

This particular storyline, where the Skrulls attempt to take over the world, has been speculated as the next ‘major’ story to unfold.

The Skrulls have already been introduced during Captain Marvel, even if not directly as villains, but a post-credit scene for Far From Home already had the Skrulls posing as Nick Fury and Maria Hill.

This did not seem to have such sinister intentions as the Secret Invasion story would suggest; but there’s groundwork already laid for that particular notion.

You just can’t rule it out.

It all doesn’t of course, have to unfold in a Spider-Man movie. It’s some pretty heavy content and not a sole concern of Spidey.

A Captain Marvel sequel, or another team-up movie like Avengers 5 (many, many years down the line) would be a more apt blueprint for Secret Invasion.

Spider-Man: Home Invasion could still serve as the film that sets the ball rolling, both for that and the Sinister Six.

Title alternatives include: Spider-Man: Carnage at Home (incorporating Venom 2‘s Carnage); Spider-Man: Runaway from Home; and Spider-Man: Far From Homecoming.

Marvel fans do have a namedrop to be excited about in the meantime, with Venom 2 adopting the subtitle Let There Be Carnage.

The new title was announced as a somewhat of a peace-making gift, having revealed the Venom sequel was facing a lengthy delay.

The film had initially been due to arrive in September, but with production delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, it will now be released on June 25, 2021.

This in turn might cause a few problems for Spider-Man 3, which is currently on the schedule less than a month later.

No moves have yet been made in that department; though we don’t expect the two to stay so close together unless its required to tie-in the storylines.
